The Cayman Islands have much to offer. From fabulous beaches to world-class diving opportunities, a vacation in the Cayman Islands will be unforgettable. Planning such an adventure is all part of the fun. In this article, we are going to help you plan a dream vacation in the Cayman Islands. Whether you are thinking of taking your kids or you want to spend some quality time with a significant other, it is hard to beat the Cayman Islands!
The Best Time to Visit the Cayman Islands
There is no bad time to visit the Cayman Islands, but it can be very hot between May and October. The hurricane season lasts from June to November. Prices are often lower around this time, but there is always a risk that your travel plans will be disrupted by a hurricane. High season is December through May, but April is considered the best time to visit the islands.
Choosing a Cayman Island
There are three Cayman Islands. You can elect to stay on just one island, or island hop between all three.
- Grand Cayman is the biggest of the three and this is where the cruise ships stop. It’s a busy island with many resort hotels, luxury Cayman villas, and amenities such as boutiques, restaurants, and bars. If you want to be in the middle of the action, stay on Grand Cayman.
- Cayman Brac is a bit quieter, but there is an international airport. There are some spectacular views from the rugged cliffs of Cayman Brac, so take your camera. There are also some wonderful offshore diving sites if your interest is scuba diving.
- Little Cayman is the smallest of the Cayman Islands, with a population of around 125 people. If you are hoping to spend your vacation in relative privacy and you like the idea of sunbathing on deserted beaches, make Little Cayman your destination. The local wildlife is varied on Little Cayman, so watch out for frigate birds! Bear in mind, you may bump into a few rock iguanas as you explore the island.
Selecting the Right Accommodation
Depending on your budget, you have several choices for accommodation. Resort hotels are always popular, but have you considered the merits of renting a luxury villa? There are many to choose from, all in beautiful locations. Alternatively, if you are on a shoestring budget, there are beachfront condominiums on Grand Cayman. Be aware that you will have more choices on Grand Cayman than the other islands.
Planning the Perfect Itinerary
Take care when planning your itinerary. Where you stay will determine what you can do, but there is nothing to keep you from traveling between the islands. There are regular flights between Grand Cayman and its two sister islands. There isn’t a ferry service, but there are many boat charter companies offering island hopping tours. Consider working a boat trip into your travel itinerary so you can maximize the time you spend in the Cayman Islands.
If you feel like a change from your usual St. Barts villas, the Cayman Islands are a fabulous choice!
